Gluten Free Christmas

There are some amazing gluten free desserts to indulge on for any occasion, especially Christmas. Whether you are looking for something new or are looking for products that take into account your other allergens, these are some great options to try. There are even some gluten free gifts for the Celiac in your life or to put on your wish list.

I love Christmas and the whole lead up to Christmas. Even if the weather isn’t all that nice, the decorations and music everywhere always put a smile on my face. While I try not to go crazy on spending a lot of money on gifts, I like to prepare yummy food the whole month. Sometimes I buy it and sometimes I make it.

I love a huge Christmas supper and I find it easy to make the meal itself completely gluten free. The desserts and snacks on the other hand, get a bit trickier for me as a non-baker. That is why I came up with some different gluten free options and I want to share them with you!

Delicious recipes for the gluten-intolerant. Gluten is primarily found in wheat, rye, barley and oats. A recent study suggests that one in 250 Americans cannot tolerate gluten. Many suffer from Celiac disease, a digestive disorder that damages the small intestine and interferes with the absorption of nutrients from food. Many others also suffer from food allergies that trigger a wheat or gluten sensitivity.

Gluten Free Christmas Snacks

There is something that I make every single year at Christmas time. I make a big batch and deliver it as little gift bags to my friends and co-workers. I use my favourite cereal, Chex, and make it super fun and tasty. Everyone loves it.

  • 6 cups of Chex cereal (I use regular or honey nut.
  • 1 ½ cups of mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup of walnuts (or your favourite nut)
  • ¼ cup of red and green sprinkles (optional)
  • ¼ cup of powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ cups of M&M’s
  • 1 cup of white candy coating (Merckens brand of coating is the best)

PS – You can use the left over marshmallows in some hot chocolate!

  • Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper.
  • In large bowl, mix cereal, marshmallows and nuts.
  • In medium bowl, microwave candy coating uncovered on High 60 to 90 seconds, stirring after 1 minute, until almost melted. Stir until smooth.
  • Pour mixture onto cereal mixture and mix well.
  • Pour onto cookie sheet; sprinkle with holiday sprinkles, and cool completely, about 15 minutes. Break into bite-size pieces.
  • In a large resealable plastic bag, add coated cereal pieces and powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake to coat.
  • In large serving bowl, mix coated cereal mixture and chocolate candies.
